Canes Venatici

by Victor Chifelea

If you penetrate this whirlpool of the universe,
you can meet the fierce hunting dogs,
especially roused by a clever master
to tatter, not the raw flesh, but the starry cloth.

The hunter has disappeared a long time ago,
called to be judged in another world,
and they sweep the cosmic dust away,
breaking giant curtains of light.

Afterwards, the dogs try to jerk the stars around --
a crazy disorder of photons and beams --
looking for their master -- they don't seem tired --
to show him... this new sky order.

For so much time with the spiral nebula,
they can observe only sombre stars,
and run, furious, after lost souls,
becoming fierce hunters of shadows.
